Mission Statement #29

Hello to all readers. Most of you are likely going to be close friends who already know the bulk of the story to begin with, but this post is for anyone who happens across this page randomly.

My name is Alex, brother to Tim. As previously stated, this digital tack board is where Tim and I, with your help, will begin refining and solidifying the different ideas that compose the mass of our novels.

I suppose the best way to frame the world this takes place in is to identify the Genre: Fantasy. I will say that it began as science fiction on the whole, but it has slowly shifted gears into the Fantastic realm.

In describing the setting, we come to a sort of conundrum. See, settings usually involve a very specific time and place. We are at a loss because the whole mass of what we have to tell spans close to three thousand years. It takes place on Earth in fictional cohesion with the real world. I will say that the bulk therein lies after what can best be described as a clandestine apocalypse on the part of Tim and I. We do not describe what causes this change because that is not the purpose of our telling. The aftereffects of the apocalypse, however it happened, are what is important.

In specifying the setting a bit more, it takes place between two cities. One is a utopia of sorts whereas the people have exalted into a great and powerful understanding of spirituality, metaphysics, elementalism, and what can best be described as true magic. The other is quite bleak. Intelligence and thought gave way to power and corruption. Magics and sciences exist but interwoven with their sickened form of superstition. Gangs control the main of the show, and are meant to be the antithesis of the first Utopia.

Similarly, the story revolves around two antithesis characters. The first is a powerful demon who has chosen a life of benevolence rather than darkness. Comparatively, he is like Batman. He works in the darkness and prefers not to be noticed. He has a moral code and justice which he fights for with all of his black heart. His respondent is a man-made-messiah who seeks personal justice and peace similarly, but on a scale of public grandeur. The two are not enemies, but close friends rather. The thing about these two is that their overall intelligence and sheer power is unmatched. They are walking diets amongst men, and neither Tim nor I are afraid to say that. It is something that we are trying to play off well not as a boast to the awesomeness of the characters, but their complexity. Part of who their mutual persona is that they know that their might is pinnacle, but they do begin to encounter beings with comparative it not exceeding abilities.

I do have to say that a lot of whom these characters are come from our personal influences and heroes growing up. There is a certain feel from anime, like the epic nature of DragonBall Z, or the elegant art of Princess Mononoke. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and the American pantheon of heroes show through in its own way. That is not to say we ripped off these brilliant works of differing art, but one can see our influences from when we were young.

I will say this: We do reserve the right to defend our work. When one asks for criticism, they give themselves no room for defense. We are trying to change that in this area.

I am not saying we will challenge you every criticism. We take every bit into consideration, but there are certain techniques for writing that we are exploring. Some of which are unorthodox and frowned upon in modern literature, but our view is this: If someone had done it less than a hundred years ago, the style would be revered as a creative and amazing art form. Sure, this will turn away some readers, but we are not trying to appeal to everyone. We wish to appeal to those who would look at the “mistakes” we made as and understand what we were trying to get across. But, I do reiterate to you, the reader and editor, we will take your advice heavily and heartedly. We hope to, with your help, not cross the bound between creative license on the English language and just plain overindulgent writing. Tim and I will do our best to point out when to take into mind the techniques we employ as to avoid major conflict.

I’ve always been bad at closings.

Hello there, my name is Timothy, and I am the first half of the beastly mental amalgam this page is made to represent.

First things first, this journal will be undergoing many developmental changes as it is changed to a premium account (coming soon), and we have more room to flex creative muscle.

This is not a personal page, but one that is tended to by at least two people (myself, and my brother Alex). This is going to become the stomping grounds for the gargantuan, joint creative effort that has become our stories. My friend and I are working on shared universe novels that over the years since we started them (almost half a decade ago), have grown to such enormity that the line between sharing ideas, and co-creating has blurred. Whilst our two main novels to the series maintain their relative privacy, the shared universe between them and the influence of outside input on them has affected them enormously. Anymore, it has gotten to the point where an online medium through great sites such as this one have become superbly beneficial, if not entirely necessary to support the burgeoning monster of a universe/history we have crafted.

We aspire to have this page host concept art, rough drafts, chapter excerpts, screenplays/storyboards, and other key information regarding our stories- which have become our lives’ work, and one of our truest constant loves in life.

Editorial commentary and constructive criticism are welcome. Spamming and Flaming (The two “–ings of death”) are frowned upon with chainsaws- dry-ice crafted, mach 4 chainsaws. If you wish to input, or even jest, that is cool. But actively pursuing the online bashing of anything/anyone here, while being pointless and failed in its nature, is also usually an unhappy time, and we can be sure of that. ^_^

Please- when this site actually starts breathing, drop by- stay even, if you care much for it. If not, that’s respectable too. Just be sure if you actually want to see more than this post, and the few (if any) other posts that will ever be publicly placed here again, friend away. We are setting it up to have a close-knit community of cool others, and also taking care to protect our work- which any other writers/artists can appreciate.
Thanks for your time,
The Management
